Why It’s Okay to have a Break from Blogging

street style, casual fashion, smart fashion

Some of you may or may not have noticed that I have been absent from the blogging world recently. I see lots of bloggers talking about taking a break from blogging for loads of reasons. Sometimes, they fall out of love with it because it is so difficult to progress in this industry. Other times, constantly sharing your life with strangers on the internet just becomes too time consuming, and well, just too much. For me, it was neither of those things. For me, life just got in the way. The past couple of months ave been incredibly stressful. And part of that stress came from the fact that I was beating myself up about not blogging.

So, to save you from the stress that I have put myself through, here are a few reasons why it is okay to take a break from the blogging world.

Face it: Sometimes you have other Priorities

At the moment, it feels like my life is one big chaotic mess. And trust me, I am not the kind of person that handles intense stress well. Although I have my tried and tested ways of de-stressing, sometimes, when you have too much on your plate, they just don’t seem to do the trick anymore.

I’m currently in my final year of University, I write freelance for a skincare companies blog and I have my own blog to manage. And while to some people this may not seem like a lot, I often feel like I spend my entire life working without actually getting anything done. I am such a perfectionist. So, when I realised that I was trying to do everything, but not actually completing anything to a high standard, I knew it was time to take a break.

At the moment, my main priority is university. And yeah, it is difficult not to feel bad about missing a blog post here and there. But just remember, sometimes you do have more important things going on.

It’s Good to Take a Break from Social Media

Social Media is such a massive part of blogging that it is often difficult to realise just how much time you spend on it. I’m not one of those people that is going to rant on about how unhealthy social media is. I actually think social media is a fantastic platform for creativity, business and a great way to make friends.

But Social Media does have a couple of drawbacks: You begin to compare yourself and your progress to others, and you forget to actually take part in the world around you.

Personally, I know when it’s time to take a bit of a break from social media when I start only looking at the world through my phone. When it is more important to take a photo or Instagram story than actually experiencing the world around you. I also know it’s time to take a break when I start comparing my own success to that of other people. It’s important to remember that everyone moves at their own pace in life. Some people gain success quickly, and for others it’s a long, hard graft. I myself am of the latter camp, and sometimes you need a break to remember that that is not a bad thing.

Having A Break Can Reignite Your Love For Blogging

Personally, I blog for myself, it’s something I do because I love writing and I love constantly learning and growing. But even though I blog primarily for the love of it, sometimes it’s difficult when you feel like your stats aren’t reflecting the effort and time that you put in. I think we’ve all been there.

To get out of this slump, all it takes is taking a step back from blogging. When I feel like I’ve had enough and decide to go on a break, I always find that after a couple of weeks I really miss it. And then, when I do start blogging again, I’m back with a vengeance.

Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of a break to refresh your mind, helping you to realise what is important. Now i’m back and more excited about blogging than ever!

Have you ever taken a little break from the blogging world? I would love to know how you found it down in the comments!
